AYURVEDIC ORIGINS

AYURVEDIC ORIGINS

In Doshic Theory, we have gunas (Universal attributes) and karmas (actions), which bridge the gap between the energies associated with physics and the tangibility of physiology.

Ayurvedic mysticism would suggest that the world first existed in a state of unmanifested (avyakta) Consciousness.  From the subtle vibrations of “aum” (OM), the soundless sound of the universe, came the space element (ether).  As ether began to move, taking on action, air was created.  The movement of air then gave rise to heat to through friction, and thus, fire came to be.  The flames of the fire dissolved and liquefied into water, which then solidified to form earth.  From earth, all bodies of life were created.

Thus, the energy of the 5 elements is the formula responsible for all matter.

The individual human is a microcosm of the universe, meaning the 5 elements that exist in all matter are also present in each person.  Space (ether) is demonstrated between and within the organs of the body.  Air is present any time there is motion.  Fire is found in the processes of digestion and metabolism.  Water manifests in all bodily liquids (saliva, mucous membranes, cytoplasm, etc.).  Earth is responsible for the structural integrity of the skeletal and muscular systems.
